"Such a peaceful and calm setting."       —Jackie, Rockford IL

Architecture and History
Galena is rich in history. It's roots are found in Native American life, miners and civil war history. Galena's architecture is among some of the best preserved in the country. Taking in this history is a must for visitors. Visit the  Galena History Museum and tour Ulysses S. Grant Historic sites.

The Driftless Area
Millions of years ago glaciers didn't level the northwest corner of Illinois. The results were some of the most spectacular scenery in the Midwest. Our county preservation groups work hard to not only preserve our land but our history as well. Check out the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation, Galena Gateway Park, Casper Bluff Land & Water Reserve, and Horseshoe Mound.

Wine Making, Brewing and Distilling
While in Galena you may want to relax and enjoy a hand crafted beverage from, Galena Cellars Vineyard and Winery, Blaum Bros. Distilling Co., or Galena Brewing Company.

Up for an Adventure
Absolutely some of Galena's best adventure experiences include, Fever River Outfitters for kayaking and biking, Long Hollow Canopy Tours for zip line excursions, Galena on the Fly for hot air balloon rides and Chestnut Mountain Resort for skiing in the winter months and mountain biking, river tours, Soaring Eagle zipline, Segway tours and the Alpine slide in the Summer months.

Art Galleries and Studios
Galena is rich in art. Don't miss an opportunity to visit art Galleries, pottery studios and all the special events. Recommended activities include The Twenty Dirty Hands Pottery Tour, held every year the second full weekend of October, the Market House Gallery show in August and the Galena Country Fair, the first weekend of October. As Galleries go, I like to visit HelloGalena, Galena Center for the Arts, Outside the Lines (Dubuque and Galena galleries), Galena Clay Works, and Pinder Pottery.

Restaurants
Galena has some wonderful choices for dining. Log Cabin Steakhouse for steaks, Gobbie's Sports Pub & Eatery has great sandwiches, Cannova's for Italian, Fritz and Frites for European Bistro, Otto's Place for breakfast and lunch, Campeche's for Mexican dining. The excellent dining options are endless.
